Space Education Programme
Carter Observatory launched in March 2010 with a brand new space education experience. This LEOTC (learning outside of the classroom) supported programme is a comprehensive curriculum-linked space experience that will excite and motivate your students.
The Carter education programme includes access to the multimedia exhibition, a show in our state of the art planetarium and a workshop targeted to your learning objectives. Details of the programmes we offer can be found here. Carter is ideal for students Years 1 – 10. A small fee will apply.
Your students will be able to…
- Journey through space in the new planetarium/digital theatre where a guide uses digital space data to bring to life our unique place in space
- Walk through the our interactive multimedia exhibition to learn about the science, culture and heritage of astronomy from a uniquely Kiwi perspective
- Access some of the finest telescopes, astronomical artefacts and texts in New Zealand in staff-led workshop sessions.
Teachers will be offered…
- Free lesson plans to complement the trip, including pre and post visit resource advice, and classroom activities
- A free familiarisation visit
- Support from Carter staff to make the trip as stress-free as possible.
Getting to Carter is easy. There is a bus drop off point at the top of the Cable Car - 2 minute walk to Carter. Alternatively, catch the Cable Car from Lambton Quay.
